Bio

Andrea Oliva has been first flute soloist of the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia in Rome since 2003. He won first prize at the Kobe International Competition (2005) and third prize at the ARD in Munich, and from this moment on he began a brilliant career that led him to perform in the most prestigious concert halls and festivals, also collaborating as first flute with orchestras such as: Berliner Philharmoniker, Bayerische Rundfunk, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Bamberger Symphoniker, NDR Hamburg, Human Right Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
A former full member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, he attended the Herbert von Karajan Academy and was invited, at only 23 years of age, as First Guest Flute by the Berliner Philharmoniker, collaborating with conductors such as C. Abbado, L. Maazel, V. Gerghiev, S. Oramo, M. Jansons and B. Haitink. Personally invited by C. Abbado, he played first flute in the Mozart Orchestra of Bologna. He has performed several times as a soloist with the National Orchestra of S. Cecilia conducted by C. Hogwood, M. W. Chung, A. Pappano. He is a member and founder of the “Santa Cecilia-Concertgebouw Wind Quintet” and “I Cameristi di Santa Cecilia.” He is Professor of Flute at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, at the Santa Cecilia “I Fiati” Courses, at the Modena Istituto “Vecchi-Tonelli,” at the Imola Academy and Visiting Professor at the RNCM in Manchester. He is artistic director of the scholarship competitions “G. Betti” in Modena and “C. Klemm” in Lugano in collaboration with Falaut. His concerts are broadcast in Italy on Rai 5 Tv and worldwide on Stingray Classic.
He records CDs for Sony, Hyperion, Decca, Da Vinci records and Aulicus Classics.
